Liposuction is a body contouring technique that has been around for years. This surgical technique requires small incisions and a cannula (thin hollow tube). The Cannula is used to remove subcutaneous fat, which is found just beneath the skin. This fat is very difficult to remove because the body stores it as a last-resort energy source. Depending on your genetics, your body will store more subcutaneous fat in certain areas than others. Many women find that they have excess fat along their thighs and hips, whereas men often find it along their abdomen and back. This fat can prove difficult to reduce with exercise and dieting.
Liposuction treatment areas include the thighs, butt, abdomen, love handles, back and arms.
Fat commonly develops is the upper arms and may cause discomfort when wearing shirts and jackets. Some patients even shy away from social activities that will draw attention to their arms. Some men and women are predisposed to having more fat in this area but as we age, fat tends to gather everywhere. Exercise can only do so much. If you are bothered by “bat wings”, it may be time for a surgical approach. Liposuction has been tested and improved for decades. There have been many innovations that enhance the procedure. Precision sculpting helps our patients achieve their best results!
CoolSculpting vs Liposuction
CoolSculpting and liposuction are the most popular treatments today that help people obtain a slimmer body.
The primary advantage of CoolSculpting is that the treatment is non-invasive. However, CoolSculpting results take three weeks to a couple of months to show up. Many patients need multiple CoolSculpting appointments to achieve the results they want. With Liposuction, you immediately notice your outcome! Your ideal aesthetic is achieved in one surgery.
Although CoolSculpting is a less invasive solution, liposuction allows for a more controlled, immediate outcome.
Types of Liposuction
Dr. Seare specializes in many types of liposuction. He will go into detail about these lipo techniques in your personal consultation.
This minimally-invasive technique treatment implements an ultrasound device to target stubborn arm fat. The fat is emulsified with sound waves and removed with a cannula. This liposuction method is perfect for reducing that stubborn layer of fat and showing off muscle definition.
Dr. Seare uses micro liposuction to perfect your outcome! Dr. Seare is a leading liposuction surgeon and has patented cannula designs. For micro liposuction, he designed a rotating tip that is curved and shaped similarly to a spatula. This tip allows for fat cells to be gently scooped out of the upper arm area. This treatment is perfect for patients who have a smaller amount of fat to be removed from their arms.
VASER® liposuction is a minimally-invasive procedure that also implements ultrasound technology to remove unnecessary fat. The VASER® method is combined with tumescent fluid for impressive results. Tumescent fluid helps to swell the treatment area and allow improved access to the fat stores. The gentle nature of VASER® lipo in a combination of tumescent fluid allows for a shorter surgery and recovery time. This treatment will refine your arms and show off your natural contours.
SmartLipo is a form of laser lipolysis and implements light to emulsify fat cells and allow Dr. Seare to expertly reshape the arms. SmartLipo not only removes fat swiftly, but it will also tighten localized areas of skin. The result will be healthy toned arms!
Micro Lipo and VASER® Lipo are the commonly used techniques to rid the arms of fat and return them to a younger shape.

We encourage everyone who is interested in arm liposuction to schedule a consultation with Dr. Seare. He will take the time to learn about you and your body goals and determine if lipo surgery is a healthy solution. Individuals who make great candidates are:
- Healthy men and women
- Within their ideal weight range
- Unhappy with the size or shape of their arms
- Wanting to remove excess fat with liposuction
Along with these factors, it will be important to have realistic expectations for what arm lipo surgery can accomplish.
In a private meeting with Dr. Seare, your liposuction options will be gone over. Dr. Seare will assess your arms and recommend your best lipo surgery solution. He will also inquire about your health, past procedures, allergies, and medications to ensure you are in tip-top shape for body contouring surgery.
This meeting is a great time to ask questions and voice concerns. Dr. Seare will take time to educate you and make sure you are well-informed and confident in your decision.
Arrange for a friend to stay with you for the first few days of recovery as you adjust to movement.
The details of your surgery will largely depend on the lipo technique implemented. “Awake anesthesia” is used for all liposuction procedures. Awake anesthesia allows you to relax and interact with our surgical team if you need to. Awake anesthesia is preferred because it allows patients to be up and moving shortly after surgery.
Arm liposuction is often performed with VASER® liposuction. In this procedure, tumescent fluid will be used to prepare the arms for surgery. Tumescent fluid will act as local anesthesia and allow the fat deposits to be more accessible.
The VASER® ultrasonic probe will be inserted through a small incision and emit sound waves that gently dislodge fat cells from surrounding tissues. The fat will be quickly suctioned out along with the tumescent fluid. Once Dr. Seare has methodically transformed your arms, the incisions will be bandaged. This surgery takes between two to three hours and is performed in our state-of-the-art office!
Your arms will be swollen and sensitive after surgery. A compression garment will decrease swelling and help your arms adjust to their new shape. Medications can be taken to reduce any discomfort.
Brief walks will improve circulation and benefit your healing process.
Keep your arms elevated and avoid strenuous activities for a few weeks. Most patients are able to return to a sedentary job after a few days. A follow-up appointment with Dr. Seare will allow him to monitor your recovery and answer any new questions.
Your final results will set in after a few months but you will notice a difference in your arms right away. Clothes should fit better and you should experience a boost in confidence! For your best results, maintain a healthy weight and active lifestyle.
