Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in San Diego and Carlsbad

botox-logoBotox has become one of the most requested nonsurgical treatments to correct signs of aging. Botox injections are a quick, effective way to smooth away wrinkles that have been creeping up around your eyes and mouth. As one of the most recognized injectables, Botox offers a minimally-invasive solution to fine lines and wrinkles.

This treatment can help to take years off of a person’s appearance and minimize the chance of these signs of aging from returning. To find out more information about this injectable and how it can provide age-defying results, please contact Clinique Sculpture and schedule a consultation with Botox expert Dr. William Seare.

About Botox

When we smile, frown, squint, laugh, or make any other types of facial expressions, we start to see lines and wrinkles form. When a facial expression is made, it causes the underlying muscles to contract. By doing this, the skin above the muscle creases and begins to create dynamic wrinkles like forehead lines and crow’s feet.

Botox is highly diluted botulinum toxin that helps prevent signs of aging on the face. When injected, this chemical blocks the nerve signals from reaching the facial muscles, preventing a fair amount of facial contractions from occurring. This reduction in facial contractions helps stop dynamic wrinkles from occurring. This treatment is not a permanent correction to the signs of aging but it can be very long-lasting with regular injections

What Exactly Does Botox Do?

This extensively researched FDA-approved injectable blocks the contraction of the muscles that cause frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines. The purified protein from the Botox injections starts to work instantly on the muscles in the area where it is administered. Once injected, the botulinum toxin will block the signals to the facial muscles. What this will do is “paralyze” the facial muscles, preventing the contractions from occurring. With this injectable, patients can not only reduce fine lines and wrinkles but also help prevent further signs of aging from arising in the future. For those who have concerns about pain and sensitivity, an anesthetic cream may be applied to the injection area, although it is not necessary; many people find the treatment very tolerable.

Botox has also been found extremely beneficial to treat medical conditions too, not only cosmetic concerns.

This injectable can treat migraines, some chronic pain, excessive sweating, and much more. It works similarly in the way that Botox for cosmetic concerns works. The neuromodulator blocks nerve communications, so in the case of excessive sweating, the botulinum toxin stops the nerves from ‘telling’ the sweat glands to overproduce.

Botox is very safe and effective for treating a variety of concerns, making it the most popular injectable treatment.

Botox vs. Dermal Fillers

Although both of these injectables are used to help reduce the signs of aging on the face, the particular purpose of these two is very different. Botox is used to reduce lines and wrinkles that have been caused by facial muscle contractions when making expressions. The skin above the muscle creases and may become lax, leading to the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Botox stops these imperfections from occurring by preventing the muscles to perform contractions at all. This treatment will help treat fine lines and wrinkles but does not treat facial volume loss or deep creases. Dermal fillers, on the other hand, works to treat what Botox cannot. This soft-tissue gel injectable is used to increase volume in certain areas on the face that the patient feels has diminished over time or for patients simply looking to make enhancements to their aesthetic appearance by adding volume to their lips, cheeks, chin, or nose. Dermal fillers can also fill static wrinkles, or wrinkles that remain on the face when it is at rest without facial expressions. Dr. Seare can provide treatment recommendations depending on what the patient is looking to achieve.

Treatment Areas

Patients can use Botox to treat many of the fine lines and wrinkles that appear on the face over time. However, it is important to note that this injectable does not correct all imperfections of the face; rather, it works to correct the issues that have arisen due to skin laxity after muscle contractions. These lines and wrinkles will be different from those of skin that has merely lost volume over time and has begun to droop. The particular concerns that Botox can treat are:

  • Crow’s feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead expression lines
  • Lines around the mouth
  • Necklines

Benefits of Botox

  • FDA-approved for the use of cosmetic enhancement
  • Extremely affordable
  • Can be done during a lunch break
  • Relatively long-lasting with re-injections needed approximately every four months
  • Does not require any downtime or recovery
  • Can be used with other injectables such as collagen stimulators and dermal fillers
  • Injections are virtually painless

Ideal Candidates

Ideal candidates for Botox injections are men and women who are looking to minimize the signs of aging on their face that have been caused by continuous facial muscle contractions. These patients should be in good health and have no underlying skin conditions that can negatively affect the overall outcome of the injections. Patients undergoing this treatment should have realistic expectations of the outcomes and must understand that Botox injections do require recurring treatment every 3-4 months.

It is also important for patients to make sure that they do not have allergies to any of the ingredients in Botox. Often times, the patients who are looking into Botox injections are looking to avoid any extensive surgery procedures, such as a facelift. For patients who want to know more about Botox injections and how they can benefit them, please contact one of our San Diego locations today and request a consultation!

Consultation

During the initial consultation, Dr. Seare will ask the patient what his or her aesthetic concerns are and what the desired outcome is. Once this has been discussed, the doctor will review the patient’s medical history, routine medications, and any prior cosmetic injections/surgeries that the patient has undergone. Dr. Seare will perform a facial examination in order to determine that Botox injections will be a beneficial treatment to achieve the patient’s overall goals.

Once candidacy has been determined, the patient may be able to receive the injections during this same visit if time permits. If this is something you are interested in, please let our staff know when scheduling your consultation.

The Procedure

While most women and men choose to have injections around the eyes and forehead, Botox can also be used to reduce lines under the neck and jawline, as well as worry lines and fine lines around your mouth.

When you arrive for treatment your face will be thoroughly cleaned. If desired, a topical cream can be applied to numb the treatment areas. Dr. Seare will then administer a series of injections to the areas of concern, minimizing fine lines and wrinkles on the face and/or neck. His great knowledge of the facial anatomy allows his to provide natural-looking results. The treatment itself only takes about 15-20 minutes in total, after which patients are free to leave the office immediately.

Recovery

One of the advantages of receiving Botox treatments is the lack of downtime! Once the treatment is completed, the patient can leave the office and return to their daily activities immediately. It is advised to refrain from physical activities for a couple hours following the treatment, but because there is no extensive surgery or general anesthetics being used, patients will be ready to return to their routines within minutes of receiving the injections.

Patients may experience redness and mild pinpoint bleeding; these are very common and will subside within a couple hours at the most. For a couple of days following the treatment, the injection sites may be slightly swollen or bruised; these effects will go away on their own. Within a week patients will be able to enjoy the full results of the Botox injections, seeing a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles within the treated areas.

Botox Results

The result of one Botox treatment can last for three to four months. To ensure patients maintain the youthful appearance achieved through Botox, it is recommended to come in for treatment every 3-4 months. Dr. Seare is more than happy to create standing appointments for his patients (three to four months apart). The addition of dermal fillers can increase the time in between treatment sessions by providing youthful, rejuvenated results.

Cost

Botox injections are a very customizable treatment; the doctor is able to treat more than one area in a single session. The cost of treatment is based on a per unit basis, and the amount of units required will depend on how severe the patient’s concerns are. During the initial consultation, Dr. Seare will be able to provide each of his patients with a personalized quote, specifically created with their desired results in mind.
